Inferring Meanings of Unknown words

This is the best idea ever! We learned it at a workshop with Kerrie Sadler, a readers' workshop consultant. It is called Jot Lot. Give each child a number(for the year). They attach their post-its to their numbers at the end of a lesson demonstrating the task. Great way to assess who gets it and who doesn't!

I LOVE teaching small moments! This picture is of a little girl getting a big donut on an errand with her mom. She made the story come alive in a way you would never know it was only about a donut....love it!! <

Introduction

My name is Nancy Prather.  I taught kindergarten for 12 years and I am in my 4th year of second grade and loving it.  I thought I would start my blog with basically, a letter from one of my current students who has stolen a piece of my heart.  I love when a lesson goes well, or when a student achieves something for the first time, but what really gets me, and I am sure you can all attest to this, is when the personal connection I have formed with my students allows them to share their innermost thoughts with me.   I am sure you all have letters like this one!

And then there is the letter that simply makes me laugh, from a former student with the same name.
